Bed and Breakfast with Dolphins! In the Azores - Portugal

General Information:

Located on the island of Pico in the Azores of Portugal, overlooking the picturesque mountains of Pico and the blue ocean, the Bed and Breakfast offers its guests five rooms for a wonderful holiday. The atmosphere of the island of Pico is both familial and internationally.

The more than 100 years old monastery has four doubles and one quadruple room. Three bathrooms are for the guests and one bathroom is for the owner. On the first floor is the lounge. The guest rooms all have air conditioning.

The breakfast room has space for 12 people. Possibly there can be eaten on the terrace. The terrace is overlooking the ocean.

On the grounds stands an ancient wine press barn (Armazim) whose roof is renewed in 2010. The building should be further renovated. On the adjacent land is an old adega. This is to be renovated or you can use the land for new construction.

The owners section has two bedrooms and one bathroom and can be extended with three rooms in the main building which are now unused spaces.

The garden and adjacent lawn are accessible through ancient stone stairs. The parking lot has space for five cars.

Large washer and dryer is available.

Surroundings:

The Bed and Breakfast is situated in a quiet neighborhood within 10 minutes walk from the center of Madalena, where you will find several restaurants and cafes, and at 1.5 km from the sea. At 600 meters from the B & B is a supermarket and after 20 km you will find the base camp of Pico Mountain.

Whaling was once an important economic activity on Pico. How that was going on back then you can find for a large part in the museums of Sao Roque and Lajes. Fortunately, times have changed. Eco-tourism is developing rapidly in the Azores and the whales and dolphins that live here have an important role.

Nearby attractions

This location is particularly popular with nature lovers and peace seekers. Of our clients that come from all over the world, but especially from France and Germany, we have heard various reasons for their stay:

• Observing whales and dolphins (2 departure points at 1 km distance)
• Climbing the top of Pico (2351 m) the base is about 20 km from our B & B / groups are often picket up at home by the mountain guide, individuals can best go by rental car or taxi.
• Walkers: several marked trails on the island spread.
• Divers: especially diving with giant manta rays and sharks is popular
• Plant lovers: in the Azores are 62 endemic species
• Birdwatchers: different kinds of petrels, gulls and terns, but sometimes one gets to see some species that can not readily expect (American cormorants, a pelican or puffin stray)
• Fans of volcanoes on Pico you will find a very nice tava tube cave with a visitor center in function.
• Photographers: underwater and on the island. Sometimes breathtaking pictures of sunsets and cloud formations are made.
• There are several museums in the different villages. (Old whaling and whale factories, ship museum, wine museum)
• The typical vineyards, where the vines between stacked walls of lava rock to grow, are by UNESCO declared World Heritage. You can find it on Pico also some very nice wines and liquors derived there from.
• In the village of Madalena, there are several restaurants where you can eat at a reasonable price. Also one of the best restaurants on the island (D Ancora Doura) you can still reach by foot from the B & B.

Reason for selling:

Due to a tragic accident in the family the owners are forced to go back to Belgium. With passion and joy they run the Bed and Breakfast in recent years and had the desire to continue this for many more years.
