General Information:
More than we might call it royal villa: Villa Passalacqua, with its imposing elegance and sobriety of eighteenth century, is the undisputed dominator of the hill of Moltrasio. All her inner beauty and have been reported outside its former glory by a recent restoration. So that they can now be envisaged as one of the most representative examples of the stately buildings that over the centuries has enriched the banks of the lake with beautiful architectural jewelery. But to make the most important building Villa Passalacqua Moltrasio not only its appearance and its royal size, not only the many hidden treasures and ancient in its many rooms, not just Italian garden green that slopes towards the lake. To wrap the house in an aura of greatness contributes greatly, even its history. Indeed, since it was built in the late eighteenth century, has been the crossroads of characters undisputed historical and artistic value. There stayed, for example, the composer Vincenzo Bellini and the poet Carlo Porta.
The history
The villa was begun in the sixteenth century by the family Odescalchi on the place of the monastery “Umiliati”. It was subsequently sold in 1797 to Count Andrea Passalacqua, who commissioned the architect Felice Soave project for the expansion. The appearance of small manor house that became a great building of 3,000 square feet on three floors.
Interiors
Still visible are the crests of two noble families (Odescalchi and Passalacqua), embellished on some internal eaves of the building. To decorate the walls intervened in 1790 the hand of the neoclassical painter Andrea Appiani (1754-1817). Still in excellent condition, can admire some frescoes, painted by him, including a beautiful "Ascensione" in the dining room.
The last renovation done six years ago has preserved many original elements of the eighteenth century, as the bronze doors and the many decorations frescoes.
The villa comprises: 11 bedrooms, including 9 double suites, 8 baths, 2 lounges, a local pizzeria; a local cinema, two dining rooms, gym, stables (now used as a garage) dependence with 4 double rooms, 3 single rooms, 6 bathrooms, large kitchen and lounge.
The composer Vincenzo Bellini is one of many famous personalities who lived in Moltrasio. Between 1829 and 1833 was hosted by Passalacqua, and in their own villa composed “The foreign” and “La Sonnambula”.
